“The Road To The Cloud Goes Through Virtualization” featured in InformationWeek Government IT Trends.

To achieve the Federal Datacenter Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) and improving IT efficiency, most government agencies have embraced elements of virtualization, although the realization of these gains is moving a lot slower than anticipated. Federal agencies were instructed to develop consolidation plans that were expected to trim $2 billion off the federal IT budget. However, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported in July that “basic consolidation plan requirements, such as the need for schedules and cost estimates, are still unmet by almost 70% of the agencies.” This report examines new data and statistics on agencies’ consolidation efforts.
