Fusion PPT’s Article “Cloud Hits Inflection Point” featured in June Issue of InformationWeek Tech Digest
Fusion PPT’s article “Cloud Hits Inflection Point,” written by CEO Michael Biddick, has been published in the June 2014 issue of InformationWeek Tech Digest. Biddick, an expert in the field of cloud computing who has authored a book on “Federal Cloud Computing” and written over 50 articles on cloud-related topics, discusses the current state of cloud adoption in the federal landscape, advocating that now is the time to think about moving to the cloud.
Cloud computing has established itself as a gigantic revolution in the progression of technology in the U.S., and globally – at least in the commercial sector. Companies such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft compete fiercely for customers in the public cloud sphere, and cloud computing summits are held all over the world with the industry’s leading experts to debate the most recent innovations.
In 2010, the U.S. Government aimed to get on board with cloud computing when it released the U.S. Government’s Cloud First initiative, with big expectations for the benefit the cloud would bring to the federal sector. A few agencies, such as GSA and NOAA, listened and began moving applications etc. to the cloud. However, many agencies are still resisting the move to the cloud. Agency leaders are fighting legal, bureaucratic, and privacy issues, and facing concerns with information interoperability, vendor lock-in, and cultural resistance to change.
In his article, Biddick examines options and best practices for federal agencies who are considering moving to the cloud. “A continued period of sequestration, tight budgets, and increasing demands for innovative capabilities demand cloud options,” continues Biddick. “Agency CIO leaders must be prepared. Develop a comprehensive strategy that addresses not only the current regulatory landscape, but also what you expect the reality to be in a few years.”
